Where is where you are today going to take you tomorrow?
“O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour…But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne…” Dan. 5:18,20
“And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart…But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven…praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:” Dan. 5:22,23
Pride: A skewed estimation of self and of God. Belshazzar had such an attitude, even after seeing what happened to Nebuchadnezzar(for more of the story see Daniel 4 and 5). Nebuchadnezzar knew from experience, “those that walk in pride he(God) is able to abase.” Belshazzar did not learn that lesson and suffered the consequences that very night when he was killed by his enemy. He walked a road that took him to the end of his tomorrows.
“Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” Ps. 138:6
What road are you traveling? Where is it taking you? If you feel “afar” from God take Jame’s counsel. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:8a, 10
Humility: Having a true estimation of self and God.
