Have you heard of popcorn testimony meetings? Hymns have been sung, prayers offered up. The worship leader, standing behind the wooden pulpit adorned with a carved out cross, invites the congregation to stand one at a time and praise the Lord Jesus Christ, but there can be no lull between praises or the opportunity ends. Without warning, when this one little country preacher visited the service, a shout accompanied by the clap of his hands would emanate throughout the church as he jumped his pew and began praising the Lord.
The old deacon about to fall asleep wakes with a start, as everyone else jumps a foot from their seats. Babies start to cry at the sudden commotion. But nothing stopped this joy-filled country preacher. He didn’t stand in one place and give his praise. He would walk up and down the aisle shaking every hand he could reach and remind us how blessed we are to have our sins forgiven through the spilled blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
His memory continues to remind me of how blessed I am to have a Savior as I think of this man shouting with the multitude in heaven saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.” Now that’s something to shout about.
