“‘…AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,’ which translated means ‘GOD WITH US.'”
Darkness threw its blanket over me as I lay curled up on the conference room floor. My pillow soaked up silent tears. My strength evaporated into the night. My friend lay down the hall with tubes feeding her life, no they could not give her life, only a single breath.
After a night mixed with sleep and times of checking on her, I folded my blanket, thanked the nurses and walked into her hospital room. I stared out the window to hide my pain, as a nurse entered the room.
“If you look to the other side, you will see something beautiful,” he said.
A warmth filled my being, thankful for his kindness, as I beheld the beauty of the sun rising over the distant church steeple creating a halo of gold. Tears brimmed my eyes. My friend and I were not alone. Did she know I was there to walk as far with her as possible on this journey? I can’t be sure. But this I am sure of, she was not alone in death anymore than I was alone in the night.
“Behold, I am with you, and will keep you wherever you go…”
A child of God never walks alone. Immanuel, God with us, “will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” If you are feeling alone, call on Jesus. He walks among us.
More of His promises can be found in Exodus 33:14; Deuteronomy 20:1; Matthew 18:20 and 28:20 and John 14:16; 16:23.
Praying you know the comforting presence of the Lord as He walks with you through you trials.
