“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1
I remember lazy summer days of childhood lying on a grassy field watching the array of characters float by in the white puffy clouds. Childhood, nothing. I still like to watch the clouds and imagine the many figures they create. They make me smile.
But when I think of the cloud of witnesses God has given me, I not only smile, I am filled with joy. Today, I thank God for each one that has gone before me, leaving me with their witness. And I thank Him for you who invite me into your lives for a moment through your writings and testimonies. You have blessed me and I hope I in turn bless you.
I am made to think of Elijah in 1Kings 19 feeling alone, like the only one still proclaiming God’s word to a world that did not want to hear it. God let him know he was not the only one left. Neither am I. Neither are you. We are many witnesses in this together bound by the love of Christ. May we continue to encourage one another in love and good works.
Praying today, “…that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” Colossians 1:9b-12
Thank you and take a moment to check out the clouds. One day we will look up and there will be Jesus, “who is the faithful witness.”
“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…”
