“…but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” Luke 10:20b.
Lately I have shared snapshots spanning the 40 years of camp. These pictures tell only a part of the story. Mom served as director for 20 years and kept meticulous records of campers and those who received salvation in her notebooks.
From my estimation in the 40 years of camp there have been more than 3,000 campers and over 400 salvations. Not all of those are recorded in our books but our books are not the important one. We cannot know the heart of each one who professed Christ but He does and He has it recorded in His book of life. His book will not be lost, it will be accurate, and no name will be erased who has overcome sin’s judgment and is dressed in white robes of righteousness.
“He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.” Rev. 3:5, NASB.
As I studied Revelation 20 the Lord pierced my heart with the stark reality of truth. The assignment included drawing the events of this chapter. All was fine, as long as no one looks at my drawing, until the last verse. “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life he was thrown into the lake of fire.” As I read the verse and began drawing my stick figures in the flames of red, I saw people, multitudes of people.
As many as have been saved from hell’s flames through the various ministries we are all involved in, my heart broke for those who walked away not knowing what they walked toward. According to Rev. 3: 5 and Psalm 69:28, only the righteous will be recorded in the book of life. Herein lies our problem: “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags…” Isa. 64:6a.
Herein lies God’s solution: “For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ…even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. 5:17, 21b.
Through Christ’s death we are made right with God. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.” Eph. 2:8-9
If your name is not written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Holy Spirit is pleading with you to come, receive God’s gift of forgiveness through Jesus’ death and be made righteous. Your name will be recorded and Jesus who loves you and gave Himself for you, will stand and confess you are His to the Father.
I believe most who read this are already among the righteous. So I ask you, won’t you take a moment to share this post with others, praying those who are lost might see it and be saved?
Praying God’s word of life goes out to those whose hearts will receive it.
There will be rejoicing in heaven.
