Are You Being Deceived?

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image…” Rev. 19: 20a.

Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” Does absolute truth exist? blogmistake-1966448__340Throughout scripture many twos present us with the option of living in truth or living in deception. The first ones presented with these choices did not fare well and delivered us all into the realm of deception. Scripture reveals the answers using the twos of God’s word.

Two choices: “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” (1Kings 18:21).The people played the third choice which is no choice, leaving them with Baal, at least for a time. No choice is not acceptable with God. You follow either Him or the god of this world. To be clear there are only two choices; the one true God or Satan.

Two vines: Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.” (John 15:1). “And the angel…gathered the vine of the earth and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.” Rev. 14:19.

Two gates: “Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matt. 7:13,14.

Two marks: “And I saw another angel having the seal of the living God…Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”          “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon…And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth…And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads; And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (From Rev. 7:2,3; 13:11-17).

Two persons: Is there absolute truth? Yes, Jesus said to Pilate, “…To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” John 18:37. “Jesus saith unto him(Thomas), I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 16:6.      “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Two kingdoms: “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.” Rev. 11:15.       “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Rev. 20:10.

Two choices face you. Which for ever do you choose?

Two destinies: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. 6:23.

Lord willing, I hope to write to the question of, “How Can I Keep From Being Deceived?” If you have thoughts or scriptures relating to this subject to share please leave them in comments. Thank you, and if today, you made the choice to follow the Truth that leads to eternal life, I would love to rejoice with you and the angels in heaven.

  1. Amen!!! There are some scriptures in Proverbs that talk about the foolish thinking they are wise. Paul talks about fallen believers who don’t glorify God, and that it had been better for them not to know the truth, then to know, and turn away.

To be deceived means to not know the truth, so we need to have an open heart, a willing heart to turn from this world. If we don’t turn from this world, its lusts, its lies, there’s no way we will ever be able to see God’s truth, and be easily deceived. For scripture also check out 1 John, tons of scripture explaining the problems of not knowing the truth and avoiding deception. Hope that helps. God will provide for this post, you will be able to write it 🙂
