DSCF4462“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful…”Isa. 9:6.

Wonderful-full of wonder, beyond the ordinary, beyond the marvelous, beyond our imaginations to capture, this is His name, Wonderful.

“Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder…”(Isa. 29:14a). “Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.”(Hab. 1:5).

His Birth:

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord…And when they had seen it they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.” Lu. 2:10-11, 17-18.

His Words:

Jesus came to Nazareth and read to the people from the book of Isaiah. “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HATH ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HATH SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PREACH DELIVERANCE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERING OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THEM THAT ARE BRUISED, TO PREACH THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD…And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?”Lu. 4:18,19, 21-22. “

His Life:

The storm raged, filling the boat to the point of danger, when the disciples approached Jesus as He slept through it. “…he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” Lu 8;:24-25.

“And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them; Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.” Matt. 15:30,31.

His Death and Resurrection:

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour…Jesus , when he had cried again…yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” Matt. 27:45,50-53.

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” “Thou the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.” (Ps. 77:14).

There is at least one more great wonder to come. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their god…he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful…He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be by son.” Rev. 21: 3,5,7.

“How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful is my Savior’s love for me!” (Refrain to hymn, “I Stand Amazed.” Chris Tomlin’s performance of the hymn on YouTube is worth listening to.

  1. When we lived in Duluth, Minnesota, we attended a lovely, biblical-teaching church. They worked so well with the children there and they had amazing programs that were written for Christmas and Easter. For the Christmas program, the children sang a song that was based on Isaiah 9:6. As soon as I was greeted with those words on your post, that song swirled through my head. Great memories, and such a time of year to cherish what God has given us with the birth of His son, and His death on the cross. As a side note, I did check out your daughter’s site and appreciated it very much. I would like for her to read something of mine, but will contact her about that after the Christmas season. Thank you for suggesting her! Have a great day!
