“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Time was born out of eternity giving it measure; a beginning, a middle and an end.
“So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.” Matt. 1:17.
“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts crying, Abba, Father…thou…art a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”” Gal. 4:4-7.
In the fullness of time, when it completed its course, it delivered a Son. “But when the fullness of time was come…” “…Mary…being great with child…the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son…his name was called Jesus…for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Lu. 2:5-7,21; Matt. 1:21).
In the fullness of time Jesus delivered the message of the kingdom: “…Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent ye and believe the gospel.” “Having made known unto us the mystery of his will…That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:” (Mark 1:15; Eph. 1:9,10).
In the fullness of time God paid the redemption price: “And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit…It is finished: and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.”(Lu. 23:46; John 19:30).
In the fullness of time the seventieth week of Daniel will finish the mystery of God, the wrath of God, and will usher in a time when time has run its course and is swallowed up in eternity. *“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know… and understand…from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks…And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off…” (Daniel 9:24-25).
“… in the days of the voice of the seventh angel…the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets…And I saw another sign in heaven…seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God…And the angel sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven…and the earth…that there should be time no longer:” (Rev. 10:7; 15:1; 10:6)
My personal belief is that time is about to be delivered into eternity, but not yet, leaving us with: “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation…How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation…spoken by the Lord…confirmed to us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?” (2Cor. 6:2b; Heb. 2:3,4).
Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of time. May we use it wisely to receive your salvation, proclaim your salvation and the coming kingdom of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
* In my understanding the 490 referred to is a period of 490 years that began with King Artaxerxes decree to rebuild Jerusalem as found in Neh. 1:1-2:8. I gained this understanding through the Precept Upon Precept study of Daniel acquired from Precept International Ministries. I highly recommend these studies to any desiring a study of the word through observation, interpretation and application.
