I’m Rich in Blessings!

“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich…But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Prov. 10:22;Phil.4:19).
I am rich in blessings and all because of the grace of my Lord, who is my heavenly Father. I am blessed beyond measure because in my life my heavenly Father has given me three fathers to show me the way to Him. One of which quite frequently paraphrased Psalm 50:11 by saying, “My Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills.”

One of my spiritual fathers…the balding one on the wagon.

My heavenly Father sent this spiritual father to me to teach me faith.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Heb. 11:6.

He pastored my childhood church for many years, faithfully proclaiming the word in the power of the Holy Spirit. He was a small, quiet man, except when the Spirit moved him to shout. It didn’t happen often but when it did, the congregation jumped in unison and our eyes and ears were opened. No deacon could sleep through that, not even my dad.

My heavenly Father gave me to my dad who also was a spiritual father to me. By the way, he always said he wasn’t sleeping but listening with his eyes closed. I do know he taught me to have a love for the word of God.

My dad standing in the middle.

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2Tim. 3:15-17.

He would rather the whole church service be teaching and preaching the word. Leave off the singing, get to the meat. One of his favorite songs was “Words of Life”.   Loving the word instilled in me the love of God. You cannot love one without loving the other.

“…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Matt. 22:37.

The third spiritual father given to me in my junior high years taught me to step beyond Jesus as my Savior and know Him as my Lord.

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord…I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not, I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Phil. 3:7,8; Gal. 2:20).

He also, shaped my life by his example of taking the gospel into all the world. My heavenly Father used him to plant the seed of evangelism in my heart.

“Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Matt. 28:19.

I have never travelled the world taking the gospel to the many places my third spiritual father, Billy Graham, did. But through him, my dad, and my childhood pastor,  my heavenly Father instilled in me a desire to teach the word and reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ, in faith believing He would equip me for the work of His kingdom. My journey of faith has taken me most often to children through the camps, VBS, kid’s clubs, and mission trips. And now, my heavenly Father has put the world before me through this thing called blogging. The blessing of my Father, continually, fills my heart and life. These blessings are mine, not to hoard, but to share with any who will hear.

As of today, all my spiritual fathers are with the Lord. I am thankful to my heavenly Father for each one and the lessons each taught me. One day I will join them. Until then, my prayer is to keep teaching and speaking the gospel of Jesus Christ wherever He takes me and to whomever He gives me. It is to:

“…sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” 1Pet. 3:15.

What special people has the heavenly Father blessed you with along your journey of faith? Take this opportunity to share your testimony of the Father’s blessings. It will bring a blessing to all who will hear.

  1. Your post reminded of all the people God placed in my life at critical points to nurture my faith and deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the guidance of these people. In the same way we should also look to mentor people God puts in our life, to accept this role and help them to grow in their faith.

  2. God has blessed me with people who supported me at a young age. People who listened when I wanted to discuss older topics that most 13 year olds didn’t. Adults didn’t know how to speak to me. Many talked over me, and tried to water down what I said. But there were others who didn’t. They were few, but I am thankful for those ❤

  3. “Leave off the singing, get to the meat.” this made me laugh! You have an inspiring father, thank you for sharing that about him. Also, I heard of Billy Graham only recently… He’s changed so many lives and helped save so many people, but I only got to know him after he passed.
