The Lamb’s Blessings

We ended last week with the treasure chest of God’s blessings found in His word. We continue to receive  blessings from the Father each time we open the scriptures with a heart to know Him. And we begin this week with the blessings of the Lamb.

He began the shortest long journey of his life. He believed the Lord God’s promises, the treasure of truth in His word, and resolutely set his mind toward the mountain with his son.

“And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: And he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering…”(Gen. 22:7,8)

After the angel of the LORD released Abraham from sacrificing his son, Abraham saw a ram caught in the thicket.

“…and Abraham took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”(Gen. 22:13b,14).

Abraham believed God’s promise: “…That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.” Heb. 11:18,19.

“…God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering…Your lamb shall be without spot or blemish…and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening…and they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upperdoor post of the houses…ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S Passover…when I see the blood, I will pass over you…from Ex. 12:

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29.

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission…So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation… For by one offering he hath perfected  for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAITH THE LORD, I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS, AND IN THEIR MINDS WILL I WRITE THEM; AND THEIR SINS AND INIQUITIES WILL I REMEMBER NO MORE. Now  where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.” (Heb. 9:22,28; Heb. 10:14-18).

It’s done. Completed.  “It is finished.”

More tomorrow.

  1. One of the most encouraging lessons I’ve ever taught as a youth leader was actually to younger children using this very story. It was so amazing to have one of the young children listen and then reply, “Isaac carried his wood up the hill just like Jesus did”, and he put together that God provided Isaac’s lamb like He later provided ours. It’s wonderful when it all clicks.
