“The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.” John 1:43
When txjessy sent the 3 Day Quote Challenge to me, my first inclination was to dismiss it. I appreciated being thought of but I don’t do challenges or the different awards simply because I feel they distract me and distract from the purpose of my blog. But since I am breaking from my daily schedule and series, Through the Bible With Jesus, for the months of summer ministry, it seemed an opportune time to share a little of the Lord’s working in me through the years. So, here I am with my first quote and how it has impacted my walk with Christ.
As a young adult, my heart cried to choose both paths before me, knowing only one could be had. I spent tearful nights in prayer, seeking which choice to take. Emotionally exhausted, I fell asleep with the prayer still on my lips. “Show me the way, Jesus.”
That night Jesus began answering my prayer. In a dream, He appeared above the earth with a beautiful blue sky encircling Him. His arms invited me as He spoke, “Follow me.” Then He was lifted away, but not before giving me His peace.
You see both choices were good. Jesus reminded me in whatever choice I made to follow Him.
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Col. 3:17.
Through the years, Jesus has shown me what it means to follow Him , and it happens from the heart.
To follow Jesus is to be united with Him in death to the flesh,
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Rom. 6:6.
And it is to be united with Him in life,
“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord…being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” Rom. 6:11,22.
What does it mean to you to follow Christ? How has He led you in your walk with Him?
I plan to post my second quote Wednesday to continue the story.
FYI: During May, June and July I will be posting 1 to 3 times a week as summer ministry fills most of my days. Please keep us in prayer as we serve on a mission trip and in two camps. I hope in some of the down time to spend more time reading your posts. And thank you all for stopping by. My plan is to post prayers for you through the summer months.
