“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1.
David knew being blessed means more than a tingly feeling up your spine, more than a happy emotion coursing through your senses, more than one moment in time. Being blessed is knowing and walking with God through the deepest hurts in peace that passes understanding and grace that is all sufficient for our weakness. It is knowing in the end our heavenly Father works all things for our good. Being blessed is having a sure hope no matter the sea of trials trying to drown you in its wake. And you will not find it walking in the counsel of the ungodly…
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly…”
“For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulcher; they flatter with their tongue. Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, lORD, wilt bless the righteous: with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” Psalm 5:9-12.
“…nor standeth in the way of sinners…”
“Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not… I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” (Psalm 17:4,5; 119:101-104).
“…nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful…”
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night…And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty…Blessed is the man…(Ps. 1:2;2Cor. 6:16-18;Ps. 1:1a).
…But you will find it walking with the Lord.
Heavenly Father, You are our righteousness, and shield. Teach us to walk in your truth, your righteousness. May your word be our delight and may we meditate on it day and night. May we not hear the counsel of the ungodly or delight in their ways but come out from among them and be separate. May we know the blessedness of being your sons and daughters. May we walk in your Presence. Amen.
