“I write unto you little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake…ye have known the Father.” I John 2:12,13c. “I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning… ye have known him that is from the beginning” 1John 2:13a,14a. “I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one…ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” 1John 2:13b,14b.
Our heavenly Father has something to say to each of us no matter our physical or spiritual age. This is what we will look at today and in the next two posts. Will you have ears to hear?
Mike, our Day Camp chaplain, began the first day challenging the children to offer the strength of their youth in a life devoted to the Lord, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,” from Ecclesiastes 12:1. Unknown to us the challenge was accepted by an eleven-year-old girl who invited Jesus into her heart. We found this out later in the week during our baptism class when she confessed her new found faith.
Jesus invites children to come hear Him, learn of Him, love Him, seek Him, receive forgiveness for sin, repent, be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost empowering them to walk with Him.
“I write unto you little children… Come ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord…Ps. 34;11; I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me…Prov. 8:17; Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways…Prov. 8:32; Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” Isa. 28:9,10;
“…because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake… Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” Acts 2:38,39.
“…ye have known the Father…But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name…John 1:12; And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father…Gal. 4:6; The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God…Rom. 8:16.
Children need the Lord. When did you first hear of your need for Jesus and the love of God that provided for that need? Or maybe, you don’t know you have need of God’s gift of forgiveness through believing Jesus is God’s own Son who died to take your punishment for sin. He then rose from the dead to guarantee those who do believe will also rise from the dead to life everlasting. If you have not turned to Jesus for salvation from your sin, won’t you do that today? Come as one of those little children and know the joy of being born into God’s family.
