“I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning… ye have known him that is from the beginning” 1John 2:13a,14a
I am thankful for the, “…cloud of witnesses” that have shown me the path of life in word, deed, and character. Their faith and love encourage me to, “lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.”
Some of the pictures I share today are a sampling of the many who have impacted my life. Note, a father of the faith includes men, women, and the not so old in age.
“I write unto you, fathers… But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil…Heb.5:14; The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.” Ps. 92:12-15.
“…ye have known him that is from the beginning…For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing…Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 2Tim. 4:6-8;17,18.
A word of encouragement for those who are fathers of the faith among us:
Pray, “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.” Eph. 3:16. The outer man is perishing with each passing day but we have seen our journey is not over. The Lord is our strength. We still have a work to do. And we will, “bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.” So, “Let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Gal. 6:9.
Fathers be as Paul was when he said, , “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ…For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” (1Cor. 11:1; 1Thess.5,6).
Who has been a father(whether man or woman) of the faith to you? Why that person/s?
