The sun rose. It’s light filled the land. But darkness hung as a thick veil over the women. Their darkness soon turned to fear.
“And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them,
Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified:
He is risen; he is not here:
Behold the place where they laid him.
Fear turned to excited wonder. What would they do?
But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you…”
For fifty days the women, the disciples and over five hundred had seen and heard the risen Lord. Jesus met with them again. What would they see?
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them,
he was received up into heaven,
and sat on the right hand of God…” Mark 16:5-7, 19
“And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel. Which also said,
Ye me of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven,
shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:10,11
Jesus was gone. What were they to do?
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:
and ye shall be witnesses unto me
both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and
unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
“And they went forth, and preached every where,
the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” Mark 16:20
And what are we to do until He returns?
If we are His disciples we are to be filled with the power of the Holy Ghost, be Christ’s witnesses wherever we are, go out and preach the gospel everywhere.
