Friday’s Thoughts

pexels-photo-355288.jpegToday’s question is one directly from Jesus immediately after He rebuked the wind and calmed the sea. Before asking it, He removed the disciples’ anxiety. Then Jesus asked them,

“Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have not faith?”

Mark 4:40

What answer comes to your mind as to what stands in the way of someone having faith in God?

  • Disappointment with God?
  • Evil in the world?
  • The philosophies of the world?
  • The number of religions claiming truth?
  • Lack of knowledge?
  • Abundance of knowledge?
  • Lack of understanding?
  • Riches?
  • Poverty?
  • Ignorance?
  • A hard heart?
  • Unbelief?

Which of the above would you rank highest in being a stumbling block to faith in God to the unbelieving and to the Christian? Maybe, you have another that is not listed. Thank you, for sharing your thoughts. For they will help me in some research for a book I’m currently working on.

May your faith be ever increasing.

  1. All of the above apply . My personal experience with the unbeliever without a religious background is their unwillingness to face the fact of their sinfulness. The unbeliever with a religious background their feelings and experiences convinces them that they have the truth and for the Christian not knowing who their God truly is .

  2. Donna, with regard to genuine believing faith in Jesus Christ, which is crucified with Christ in death to sin, and which is raised with Christ to newness of life in him, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness, I believe the greatest hindrance to that faith is pride, control and sin.

Pride stands in the way of anyone humbling himself before God, admitting he is a sinner in need of a Savior, and humbly submitting his life to the control of our Lord (to his Lordship). And, that goes to the whole thing of control, which is people don’t want to give up control over their own lives. They don’t want to yield to God, because their pride kicks in and they want to maintain their own control over their own life. And, going along with these is sinful practices (including pride and control issues). They don’t want to yield control of their lives over to God, for pride will not let them let go of that control, and part of that is that they don’t want to give up their sinful practices, so the three – pride, control, and sinful habits – all work together to keep people from true believing faith in Jesus Christ.

So, Satan devised a plan to conquer that. Yes, Satan! He made a way for people to “believe” in Jesus and to not have to yield control or give up their pride or have to let go of their sinful lifestyles. He lowered God’s standards and he diluted the gospel of our salvation, and he made the road to salvation and to eternal life with God into the broad road that leads to destruction. So, now people feel okay with having “faith” in Jesus Christ as long as they don’t have to let go of their pride, their control and their sinful practices. But, this is a lie straight from hell, and many are falling into that trap to their deaths.
