Half the Story

cross-sunset-sunrise-hill-70847.jpegIs the cross of Christ enough?

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you,

  • which also ye have received,
  • and wherein ye stand;
  • By which also ye are saved,

if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received,

  • how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
  • And that he was buried,
  • and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” 1 Cor. 15:1-4.

Last weeks posts concerning the things of God given to us left us with only half of the good news of the gospel, the power and wisdom of God revealed in the cross of Christ. As the late ABC News broadcaster and commentator, Paul Harvey would say, now it is time, “for the rest of the story.”

The apostle Paul tells us if the story ends at the cross and there is no resurrection, “then is your faith in vain.”  And he concludes with “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”

I’ll leave you with these questions. Why do we need our sins to be forgiven if there is no resurrection of the dead? What hope is ours in this life through the resurrection?

I’m hoping to explore, “the rest of the story,” in my next 2 posts. Your comments are much appreciated. Have a blessed weekend.

  1. What hope is ours in this life through the resurrection?

    Through the resurrection, in this life we don’t just get to know the breadth of Father’s love, but experience the fullness. The hope found therein, the joy felt within, and His love for the journey… home! God bless!
