“And in the days of these kings
shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom,
which shall never be destroyed:
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people,
but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms,
and it shall stand for ever.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces thereon, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold:
the great God hath made known to the king
what shall come to pass hereafter:
and the dream is certain,
and the interpretation thereof sure.”
500 some years before Christ’s birth, the pagan King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon received a dream from the Lord. Unable to make heads or tails of the dream, he called his wise men who proved to be useless. Then Daniel appears before him assuring him the Lord God would give the meaning. You can read the rest of this drama in Daniel 2. A couple years later, Daniel has his own night vision.
“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
And there was given him dominion,
and glory, and a kingdom,
that all people, nations, and languages,
should serve him:
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
“I Daniel was grieved…I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this…Thus he said,
- The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,
- which shall be diverse from all kingdoms,
- and shall devour the whole earth,
- and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces…
- he shall speak great words against the most High,
- and shall wear out the saints of the most High…
- they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
But the judgment shall sit,
and they shall take away his dominion,
to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
And the kingdom and dominion,
and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven,
shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High.
Whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and all dominions shall serve and obey him.”
Daniel 7: 15-16,23-27.
Daniel’s night vision of the future came while serving under King Belshazzar. The complete account is found in Daniel 7 followed by another dream in chapter 8. In fact, if you like prophecy and want to study it more, in chapters 7-12 the Lord God unfolds the future of Israel.
The point being two kingdoms have waged war on the earth and in the heavens throughout history and will continue it until the final victory is celebrated. If you’ve read the end of the Book, you know the outcome.
“And the seventh angel sounded:
and there were great voices in heaven, saying,
THE KINGDOMS OF THIS WORLD ARE BECOME THE KINGDOMS OF OUR LORD,
AND OF HIS CHRIST;
AND HE SHALL REIGN FOR EVER AND EVER.”
When we think on these things we join Daniel in our lack of understanding even though we have been given more revelation than he had. From your understanding how would answer the following questions?
How does being of God’s kingdom affect your life today? What differences do you see in those of God’s kingdom and those of the world’s kingdoms-Satan’s realm?
Hope you will leave your comments and join me for my next posts to explore this further. Until then, let’s pray together,
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
