“Ye also, as lively stones,
are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices,
acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
Take courage brothers and sisters, we are living stones cut from the living stone, whom most rejected even though He is the chosen of God and precious. In Christ we are the chosen and precious living stones…cut from the same Rock. Christ is the,
“CHIEF CORNER STONE,
AND HE THAT BELIEVETH ON HIM SHALL NOT BE CONFOUNDED.”
1 Peter 2:6(Isa. 28:16).
We are those,
“built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.
In whom all the building fitly framed together
groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
ye also are builded together
for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
We are those,
“God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation
through sanctification of the Spirit
and belief of the truth:
Whereunto he called you by our gospel
to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Thess. 2:13-14.
We are called by a different name.
“And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory;
and thou shalt be called by a new name,
which the mouth of the LORD shall name.”
“And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Acts 11:26b.
We are of the house of Christ.
“Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling,
consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
who was faithful to him that appointed him,
as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses,
inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
But every house is builded by some man;
but he that built all things is God..”
The name Christian did not begin as a name of honor. It originated as a term of scorn by the world. According to Vine’s Expository Dictionary, believers accepted the title in honor as time passed. The world remains the same. The name Christian receives open scorn among many. That’s the world.
We are of a different Spirit. To be a Christian is our greatest honor. It identifies the One we follow. It identifies the house we belong to. And know this for sure, there are those who,
“shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them;
for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings:
and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”
We are the called, the chosen, the faithful. We are overcomers by the blood of the Lamb.
“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so…”
Paul’s prayer for us.
“Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” 2Thessalonians 2:16.
May you go in the love of God brothers and sisters.
How do these things encourage and strengthen you in the word and work of the Lord?
Thank you for joining me today. As you think on these things, I’ll leave you with a question to ponder until my next post.
What does it mean, as a Christian, when Peter writes you are part of a holy priesthood?
