“Truth is the most powerful weapon on earth.”
Do you agree or disagree? If you agree, you join the company of Andrei Sakharov, a Russian nuclear physicist. He made this statement sometime after designing the Soviet’s hydrogen bomb. Oddly as it may seem, he was also actively worked for peace.
Our world today, as filled with knowledge as it is, lacks knowledge of truth. Bombs, weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, disease chip away at peace attempting to destroy it. But as powerful as these things are they cannot steal peace when we know truth.
David, Israel’s shepherd boy, giant slayer, and greatest king, wrote,
“I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart;
I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation:
I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.” Psalm 40:10.
We know David as a figure of Jesus Christ who is the great Shepherd, the Satan slayer, and the King of kings. We see Christ in David’s testimony.
The Lord God gave this testimony of Jesus in Hebrews 1:8,9. It is a quote from Psalm 45:6,7.
“But unto the Son, he saith,
THY THRONE, O GOD, IS FOR EVER AND EVER:
A SCEPTRE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS THE SCEPTRE OF THY KINGDOM.
THOU HAST LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND HATED INIQUITY;
THEREFORE GOD, EVEN THY GOD,
HATH ANOINTED THEE WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS ABOVE THY FELLOWS.”
As David declared by word God’s faithfulness and salvation, the Lord Jesus revealed His character in fact.
Jesus Christ the faithfulness of God revealed:
“And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him,
they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. But God raised him from the dead. And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
And we declare unto you glad tidings,
how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children,
in that he hath raised up Jesus again…”
And His salvation was not for the Jews only.
“For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying,
I HAVE SET THEE TO BE A LIGHT OF THE GENTILES,
THAT THOU SHOULDEST BE FOR
SALVATION UNTO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH.”
David did not conceal God’s truth in that much of his writings point us to the One who is truth revealed.
Some say reality is what you make it. Jesus says He is the complete revelation of reality when He says,
“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58.
“I am the…truth…”John 14:6.
Jesus is not relative truth, dependent upon certain situations. He is absolute truth, absolute, complete truth. The Pharisees didn’t believe Him. They sought to destroy Him. But truth remains truth whether believed or not. It cannot be destroyed by lies, only not received. Truth remains forever for Jesus lives forever.
When Jesus stood before Pilate waiting His judgment, Pilate asked Him,
“Art thou a king then?”
“Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king.
To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the truth.
Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
“Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?”
Jesus. Jesus is the truth. If we want to know truth, we need to know Jesus.
Are you lacking peace in your life?
Examine who and what you’re listening to.
There is only one place to know absolute truth.
- Know Jesus and you’ll know truth.
- The truth will set you free from the confusion and anxiety of this world.
- Believers, we are not of this world. We are of a better kingdom, a kingdom built on the truth of God.
We may not understand all that’s happening around us, but as the old song says, “We know who holds tomorrow.” He is truth and knowing truth brings peace. You will find Him in his word.
“If ye continue in my word then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.”
Sound too simple? It is the wisdom of God, not simple but definitely freeing.
Let this be our prayer.
“O send out thy light and thy truth:
let them lead me;
let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God,
unto God my exceeding joy;
yea, upon the harp will I praise thee,
O God my God.”
Rejoice in the truth. He is our salvation.
How did you answer the question at the beginning? Why do you believe truth is/is not the most powerful weapon on earth?
