Branches & Vines

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29

My husband brought a small branch of some unknown origin into the house, stuck it in a vase of water and watched it produce roots. The branch became the vine producing branches in its likeness.

The prophet, Jeremiah, speaks of a Righteous Branch that will put down its roots in a land once forsaken. It is the vine that will produce righteousness in Israel, when all Israel shall be saved.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGTEOUSNESS.” Jeremiah 23:5.

Jeremiah reinforces the truth:

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD,

that I will perform that good thing

which I have promised unto the house of Israel

and to the house of Judah.

In those days, and at that time will I cause the

Branch of righteousness

to grow up unto David;

and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.”

Jeremiah 33:14-15.

In the kingdom years of Israel and Judah, the rise and fall of good and bad kings prevails in their history with more bad kings than good. One day the Lord God will fulfill His covenant with David with a Righteous Branch.

This Righteous Branch is the Gentiles branch of righteousness, as well. He is the Branch that put out roots, and grew to be a great vine producing branches in His likeness.

Jesus tells us;

“I am the vine, ye are the branches;

He that abideth in me, and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.”

John 15:5

I am the vine, ye are the branches…

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…”Galatians 2:20;

Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me; because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” John 14:19,20

“So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” Romans 12:5

He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit…

“…the righteous shall flourish as a branch…the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:28,30

“…that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1:10,11

For without me ye can do nothing.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” John 15:4

“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God:” 2 Corinthians 3:5

As the Righteous Branch is the vine, the branches springing forth from the vine are righteous not of self but of the Righteous Branch.

Death and sin reign over the seed of Adam. When we look at the world we cannot expect more than what we see. But life and righteousness reign over the seed of Christ.

“That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord…Being then made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.” Romans 5:21;6:18.

We the branches of the Righteous Branch are made righteous.

When the world looks at followers of Christ what are they seeing?
