Prayer & Praise

“But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit …

he that received seed into the good ground

is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it;

which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth,

some an hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Matthew 13:8,23

In Jesus’ parable of the sower, the seed is the word of God. No fruit can grow without the seed first being planted in a heart ready to receive it.

Our Prayer

  • May we have ears to hear the word of God.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God …

the Word was God …

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,

(and we beheld his glory,

the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) …

This is my beloved Son,

in whom I am well pleased;

hear ye him.”

Romans 10:17; John 1:1,14; John 17:5

  • May we abide in the Word, the source of life.

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men …

I am the true vine …

Abide in me, and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine;

no more can ye, except ye abide in me …”

John 1:4; John 15:1,4

  • May we bring glory to the Father through the power of the Spirit of Christ in us.

“Herein is my Father glorified,

that ye bear much fruit;

so shall ye be my disciples …

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,

faith, meekness, temperance…

If we live in the Spirit,

let us also walk in the Spirit.”

John 15:8; Galatians 5:22,23,25

  • May Christ in us be reflected in all we do by letting –

“the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;

teaching and admonishing one another

in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,

do all in the name of the Lord Jesus

giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Colossians 3:16,17

The Father will answer this prayer and make us fruitful before him – it brings him glory and us good. For we –

“shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;

his leaf also shall not wither,

and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:3

Our Praise (The older I get the more I like this next Psalm)

“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD,

and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,

and thy faithfulness every night …

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:

he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Those that be planted in the house of the LORD

shall flourish in the courts of our God

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age;

they shall be fat and flourishing:

To shew that the LORD is upright:

he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

Psalm 92:1,2;12-15

  • May we sing praise with the Psalmist –

“For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work:

I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O LORD, how great are thy works!

And thy thoughts are very deep …

But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.”

Psalm 92:4-5, 8

Someone planted the seed of God’s word in our hearts. Thank them by continuing to pass it on to others.

May we each join with our brothers and sisters in Christ lifting our hearts and voices as one in praise to our Lord and Savior.
