“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.” Psalm 16:7.
Monday’s post: Blessed: Walking in the Presence of the Lord, encouraged readers to seek counsel from the One who is omniscient, who is holy and who guides in truth. As He freely gives us counsel in His word and through godly men and women instructed in His word, may we take time to return a blessing to Him.
“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel…And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD…For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor… Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings…Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory…This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.” (Isa. 11:1,2; Isa.9:6; Jer. 32:19;Ps. 73:24; Isa. 28:29).
How do we bless the Lord?
- Using the brain He has given us: “…my reins also instruct me in the night…But He said, Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and obey it.” Luke 11:28.
- Keeping our mind set on the eternal. “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved… Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth… Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” (Ps.16:8; Col. 3:2;Heb.12:2,3).
The result?
- When you bless God, He returns a blessing to you: Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.” Psalm 16:9.
This week I have learned again how much I depend on the Lord’s counsel, as my Mom and I walk through the darkness that seeks to capture her mind. But the light of Christ gives her knowledge of His love and speaks words of truth to her spirit. She is His child and He will never leave her or forsake her. Even when she forgets, He remembers her. She is His beloved and He is hers.
What need do you have that you desire the Lord’s light to give you counsel?
Praying Together:
Precious Heavenly Father,
how great are your mighty works.
You are our faithful Counselor who guides us each day until, one day, You take us to glory to forever live with you where there is no darkness.
Until then may we bless you with thanksgiving and obedience to your word.
May we hold the eternal in our hearts and look always to our Lord Jesus Christ.
May we walk each day in the joy of Christ in us, our strength, our peace and our rest. With Him we will not faint in the way.
Blessed be the name of our Lord. You do all things well.
Where do you turn when you don’t know where to turn?
