“Be Ready”

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear;” 1Peter 3:15.

This verse describes my journey with the Lord as I learned to obey Day 1’s quote, “Follow me.” By the way, so no one is under the misconception that I have life all figured out, I am still in the learning process and know I will be until the Lord gives me a new body and takes me to live with Him.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts…The foundation for following the Lord begins here with understanding who the Lord God is and submitting to His reign in my life by believing,

“…God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit(pureness of heart, Him being my greatest desire), and in truth(according to who He is).” John 4:24. This truth will be manifested in,

“Having a good conscience; that whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” 1Peter 3:16.

With the foundation laid, the building begins making us,

“…ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you… But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry…2Tim. 4:5;

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept…In a moment, in the twinkling of and eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed…Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure…thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”(1Cor. 15:19,20, 52; 1John 3:2,3;1Cor. 15:57).

1Peter 3:15 describes the progression of my life with the Lord, His working in me as He uses the gifts of teaching and evangelism for the building up of His body and kingdom. I didn’t know when I first studied this verse that it would be what some called a life verse. But when a fellow worker asked me one day what my life verse was, this one came to mind and accurately defines the Lord’s work in me. And my prayer continues to always sanctify Him in my heart and never fail to give others the reason for my hope, the sure hope He has put in my soul.

My third quote illustrates how these two quotes have shaped my life into the fullness of the Lord’s joy and abundant life. I hope you will join me on Friday.

For now, if you have a life verse, one that fits the work of the Lord in you, won’t you share it with us in the comments?  If you don’t have one, ask the Lord to reveal one to you. It’s a good way to remember the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord to finish the work He has begun in you. Have a blessed day!
