The Seeker

“I’d better hang up.” This happened many years ago in the days of only land line phones. “I best check on my boys. Too quiet bothers me.” My best friend and I laughed as we ended our call.

I headed down the stairs to the finished basement. Not a sound. My heart missed a beat. The patio doors, they must have gone outside to play. No, my mind wrestled with another thought. The old refrigerator. No, I would check outside. The doors were shut but I opened and called. No answer. The refrigerator. Fear pounded in my lungs. No. The refrigerator, my spirit shouted at me. I ran across the room and flung open the door. My two precious boys, ages 4 and 5, sat inside. The youngest slept. The oldest cried, “Mommy, I yelled and yelled for you but you wouldn’t come.”

I kept my emotions in check until my dad “just happened” to come by a few minutes later. He took the boys with him and gave me time to release the what ifs and realize the great joy that overflowed at finding my boys in time. Even today, as I write this the grace of God fills me with thanksgiving as tears fill my eyes. My boys were found.

That day, I was the seeker. When Luke penned the gospel of Christ, he records these words from Jesus.

“For the Son of man is come

to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Luke 19:10.

He came seeking the lost. He continues to seek the lost. And the best news, He hears when we call.

When Jesus came those who readily received Him were the publicans and sinners. This received rebuke from the hypocritical religious leaders.

And Jesus answering said unto them,

They that are whole need not a physician;

but they that are sick.

I came not to call the righteous,

but sinners to repentance.”

Luke 5:31,32.

Who are the righteous?

“As it is written, THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO , NOT ONE: THERE IS NONE THAT UNDERSTANDETH, THERE IS NONE THAT SEEKETH AFTER GOD.” Romans 3:10, 11.

When sick we go to a doctor. But if we deny the truth of our condition we are apt to die in that condition. The same is true for the condition of our soul. It is born sick with the propensity to sin. If we deny this truth we will die in that condition to be forever separated from the Lord who seeks to give us life.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God…”

“For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 3:23; 6:23.

Many who find salvation in Jesus, tend to think they initiated the search. When, in fact, the search begins with the drawing of God the Father.

Jesus says,

“No man can come to me,

except the Father which hath sent me draw him:

and I will raise him up at the last day…

And he said, Therefore said I unto you,

that no man can come unto me,

except it were given unto him of my Father.”

John 6:44,65.

What causes the Father to draw the lost? His love and desire for all to be saved. The cross of Christ is His drawing card.

“But God commendeth his love toward us,

in that, while we were ye sinners,

Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

“Herein is love,

not that we loved God,

but that he loved us,

and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

1 John 4:10.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise,

as some men count slackness;

but is longsuffering to us-ward,

not willing that any should perish,

but that all should come to repentance.”

2 Peter 3:9.

Because of the Lord’s love and patience He continues to seek the lost today. I couldn’t hear the cries of my son but the Lord will hear yours.

“(For he saith,

I HAVE HEARD THEE IN A TIME ACCEPTED,

AND IN THE DAY OF SALVATION

HAVE I SUCOURED THEE:

behold, now is the accepted time;

behold, now is the day of salvation.)

2 Corinthians 6:2.

“FOR WHOSOEVER

SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD

SHALL BE SAVED.”

Romans 10: 13.

He is as near as the word you speak with a heart of faith believing.

“But what saith it?

THE WORD IS NIGH THEE,

EVEN IN THY MOUTH,

AND IN THY HEART:

that is, the word of faith, which we preach.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,

and shalt believe in thine heart

that God hath raised him from the dead,

thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness:

and with the mouth

confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:8-10.

If you do not know Jesus as your Savior, won’t you give Him and the angels in heaven a reason to rejoice? Be found of Him. And I would love to hear your confession of faith and rejoice with you, too.

“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” Luke 15:10.
