Part 3 of Kings & Kingdoms, Continued.

forgiving one another,

even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:32

Today’s scripture post is taken from Matthew 18:21-35 showing the heart of the Lord’s kingdom and the heart of the world’s kingdom.

The Lord’s kingdom:

“The came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?

Jesus saith…not unto …seven times but until seventy times seven.

Therefore the kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon,

  • one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
  • But forasmuch as he had not to pay,
  • his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying,

Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Then the lord of that servant

  • was moved with compassion,
  • and loosed him, and
  • forgave him the debt.

The word on the world’s kingdom:

But the same servant went out, and found one of the fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence:

  • and he laid hands on him,
  • and took him by the throat, saying,
  • Pay  that thou owest.

And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying,

Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

  • And he would not:
  • but went and cast him into prison,
  • till he should pay the debt….

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him,

O thou wicked servant,

I forgave thee all that debt,

because thou desiredst me:

Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant,

even as I had pity on thee?

And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you,

if ye from your hearts

forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”

How do you define forgiveness?

  1. Thank you, Donna, for this series and for showing us the two approaches of forgiveness, one Godly and the otherwise; by contrasting the two kingdoms, utilizing the same verses. Indeed these are different ways and we opt to follow what JESUS CHRIST has taught us. So, going to your question of the day, how do I define forgiveness? Honestly, as a Christian, it is still a struggle of letting go of once hurt and anger. But we should cling to CHRIST, surrendering all our anger and hurt to Him. So, forgiveness then is 70 × 7 = 490 or to infinity and beyond!

    1. Not forgiving hurts the offended more than the offender. It is hard to let go of our right to be angry and our pain. If we will the Lord will take care of the rest. And I am glad to hear you are enjoying the series. Thank you for the encouragement.

  2. Thanks for sharing this! It’s really hard to forgive sometimes. In fact, I believe that even if we say the we’ve forgiven someone who has wronged us, sometimes, we discover deep inside that we actually hadn’t. In this case, we just fool ourselves into a false belief. Therefore, we should always check our hearts.

    Personally, I believe that forgiveness doesn’t mean reconnection. 🙂 You may fully forgive someone but it doesn’t mean you have to be in his/her life again. 🙂 Have a great day!
